The Quinoa is an ingredient that is becoming more popular since it is a nutrient – packed food and very beneficial for the proper functioning of our body; in fact, such is its nutritional contribution that it is considered a superfood, alongside other options such as spirulina, kale, or coconut oil. The best way to take advantage of its many benefits is to incorporate it into our diet and learn to cook delicious dishes with it. In this article we are going to give you 4 recipes with quinoa that are easy to prepare and very delicious, we will also tell you how this ingredient should be washed to extract the bitter flavor and make your dishes delicious.

Prepare the quinoa for cooking

Quinoa is cooked in a similar way to rice but with the main difference that it has to be washed before mixing it with other ingredients as it has a slightly bitter and strong natural flavor. In addition, when you wash it, you will be able to eliminate any toxic product that has been impregnated in this seed.

To wash them, you will have to dump them on a plate and fill it with water until they are covered, stir and drain them with a strainer. We repeat this procedure again, that is, we cover them again with water and strain them again, like this, up to 4 times to make sure that they have been cleaned correctly and the bitter taste has disappeared.

When you finish, you will have to fill one last time with water and let these seeds rest for 1 hour , thus, you will get that the cleaning is much more extreme; Strain them and then they are ready to boil. To do this, you just have to add the quinoa in a pot with boiling water and let it cook for 15 or 20 minutes or until you see that the grain has opened.

Then you just have to strain them and let them rest to cool a bit and, thus, be able to mix with other ingredients and give it a better flavor.

Benefits of quinoa

Why has quinoa become an essential food for a healthy diet? Because it is a seed that contains numerous nutrients but, in addition, they promote a healthier life by improving some internal processes. Next we are going to discover the main benefits of quinoa:

  • Rich in nutrients: it has 9 essential amino acids in addition to providing us with carbohydrates, proteins, fiber and healthy fats.
  • Ideal for maintaining our weight: being rich in fiber, it makes us feel equally satisfied with less quantity and, in addition, it promotes intestinal cleansing, achieving a more purified body.
  • Optimal cardiovascular health: it is rich in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, two components that intervene in our cardiovascular health, making us protect ourselves from heart disease.
  • Rich in proteins: more than 50% of quinoa is protein, something perfect for vegans or vegetarians who do not take animal proteins and who can supplement it perfectly with this seed.

Quinoa salad

We are going to start with a recipe for quinoa that is very easy to make and in which we use quinoa as couscous is often used (in the tabbouleh, for example). To make this salad you will need to gather the following ingredients (for 4 people):

  • 200 grams of quinoa
  • 1/2 lettuce (to taste: iceberg, arugula, curly, etc.)
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 1 carrot
  • 8 cherry tomatoes
  • Fresh cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

After washing and cooking the quinoa, we will let it drain the excess water and let it cool down because, how we are making a salad, the interesting thing is that this ingredient is cold. While it cools, we will prepare the salad, for this we will cut the lettuce and wash it to remove any dirt. Then, put it in the salad bowl and reserve.

We will do the same with the rest of the vegetables, that is, we will wash them and cut them into a similar size so that all the ingredients are integrated and the flavors come together. When they are ready, add the cold quinoa and stir well, ensuring that all the ingredients are mixed together. Add fresh cheese to add more protein to your plate and voila!

Quinoa recipe with vegetables and egg

We are now going to opt for a hot and very nutritious dish that is perfect to maintain our line as well as vegetarians (not vegans because we will use eggs). To prepare this recipe with quinoa for 4 people we will need:

  • 250 grams of quinoa
  • 4 eggs
  • 300 grams of shitake mushrooms
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 leek
  • 150 grams of pumpkin
  • 1 red pepper
  • 10 chopped walnuts
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt
  • Chopped parsley

The first step is, obviously, to prepare the quinoa as we explained in step 1. When you have it ready, we will begin to prepare the rest of the food to be able to configure our plate.

We clean the leek, pumpkin and pepper and dice them so that they integrate perfectly with the other ingredients. Then, we sauté them in a frying pan or a wok with a little oil and add a little salt.

We do the same with the mushrooms and garlic, but we add them a bit later because they cook faster. Season and, when they are almost ready, add the quinoa in the preparation of the pan, add the walnuts and parsley and stir so that the flavors combine.

In a separate pan we will fry an egg (or we will grill it if you want to keep the line), when it is ready, we will place it on top of the quinoa and enjoy!

Quinoa schnitzel

People vegan or vegetarian can prepare delicious cutlets quinoa and thus vary slightly in their recipes with surprising textures and delicious flavors. Next we are going to tell you how to make this plate for 2 people:

  • 100 grams of quinoa
  • 100 grams of oatmeal in flakes
  • 50 grams of wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons of chimichurri (optional)
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

The first step is also to prepare the quinoa as we have mentioned before. When it has cooled down, we will mix it with the oatmeal in flakes and, later, we will add the chimichurri (if we want) or, if not, we can add a drizzle of oil to make the dough more soft and light.

When you have the dough ready, you will have to shape the Milanese’s with your hands or, if you have one, with a mold. Add a little oil to a frying pan to cook them and let them cook for about 5 minutes or until you see that they are golden brown. Ready! A delicious and nutritious dish.

Salmon with quinoa

To vary a bit, we are going to propose another recipe with quinoa but that, this time, we will use it to accompany a delicious salmon. To make this dish we will need to gather the following ingredients:

  • 500 grams of salmon
  • 200 grams of quinoa
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Basil
  • 1 lemon
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

The first thing is to prepare the quinoa and let it rest. When it is ready, we will have to cook the salmon and for this the first thing is to season it. Then we will have to beat an egg and pass the fish through it so that it is perfect for breading. Before doing so, we will have to add the spices to the cooked quinoa and mix it so that all the flavors are integrated.

Then we can pass the salmon over the spiced quinoa and put it to cook in a pan with a drizzle of oil. It cooks quickly so in less than 5 minutes you will have this dish ready to taste. Let’s enjoy it!
