How to make energy bars

The energy bars are a perfect supplement for all those people doing sport outdoors. They have such a high nutritional content that they are not only recommended for athletes, but also for those who wish to follow a balanced diet and have a healthy life. You can buy them already prepared at any supermarket or make them yourself at home. If you would like to include them in your diet but you don’t just like their taste, how about adding chocolate to the ingredient list? Don’t miss this article and discover how to make energy bars with chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 250 g of rolled oats
  • 150 g of chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons of honey
  • 3-4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 100 g of nuts
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • a pinch of salt

Steps to follow to make this recipe:

One.Preparing your own energy bars is very simple, the first thing you should do is heat it in a pot or saucepan over low heat with honey, sugar and butter. If you want to make the bars even healthier, you can eliminate the sugar and increase the amount of honey and butter proportionally. Stir from time to time to dissolve.

Two.While the previous ingredients dissolve, mash the nuts you have chosen. You can use almonds, walnuts, pine nuts, and sesame, whatever you like the most. Also if you do not like nuts, you can substitute them for red fruits, such as blueberries, and chop them very small. Preheat the oven to 200ºC.

3.When the ingredients you have on the fire have completely dissolved, add the chopped nuts, oat flakes, cinnamon powder and a pinch of salt. If you want, you can use vanilla essence instead of cinnamon. You will have to stir everything until you get a paste. If you want, you can chop up some chocolate and add some nuggets to the dough.

4.Take a baking tray and cover it with greaseproof paper suitable for it. When you have obtained the pasta, spread it on the tray leaving a thickness of about three centimeters. Try to shape the pasta on the energy bars into a square or rectangle so that when you cut them later, they are all the same.

5.Now, lower the oven temperature to 190ºC and bake the bar for 15 minutes. While they are in the oven, we will melt the chocolate. To melt it you have several options, you can do it in a double boiler, in the microwave or in a saucepan over the fire, and whichever is more comfortable for you.

6.After the baking time, remove the bar from the oven and let it cool. When it is cold, you can already cut the bars with a serrated knife. Now it only remains to dip the bars in the chocolate halfway and let it harden. To do this, place the bars with the chocolate side up, otherwise they will stick to the surface where they are. To speed up the process, you can put them in the fridge.

7.When the chocolate has solidified, you will have your homemade energy bars finished. As you can see, it is a very simple and delicious recipe, as well as healthy. With these amounts, about 20 bars should come out, but that will depend on the way you cut them.

Tips

  • Let the bars cool completely in the pan. Once cool, cut them with a very sharp knife. Then lift the bars by the flaps of the parchment paper to remove from the pan. Store between layers of wrapped paper in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
